The AHA are running a couple two umpiring initiatives which are designed to help grow the number of competent umpires in Auckland in the long term. These programmes are:
PUMP (Player Umpiring Mentoring Programme)
JUMP (Junior Umpiring Mentoring Programme)
programmes are designed to help mentor parents or players who are interested in developing skills as an umpire. It involves participants attending and umpiring games on on either saturday mornings (juniors) or sunday mornings (seniors). They will be mentored by AHA umpires and after the few weeks the participants will be more confident umpires.
After the course the trainee will have the opportunity to continue to umpire as an official AHUA umpire and a new batch of trainees begins.
Without umpires our sport is not able to run, so we encourage people who are interested in helping umpiring develop within Auckland Hockey, to go along to these courses. If you are interested, please contact coaching@akhockey.org.nz.

Its that time of the year when trial dates are being set and planning for the 2012 season is underway.
